CITY OF GEELONG & PARKS VIC
REMNANT CANOE

Event Kit was engaged by the City of Greater Geelong to lead the installation of the Remnant Canoe artwork at the You Yangs Regional Park.

Remnant Canoe, is a public artwork installed in 2017, gifted by the City of Greater Geelong to Parks Vic. It is a permanent legacy of the Mountain to Mouth, a biennial extreme arts event, of which Event Kit is an event producer.

Challenge: to bring to life the legacy of the Mountain to Mouth ephemeral event experience, in a tangible and permanent artwork at the You Yangs Regional Park.

Outcome: Event Kit worked with commissioned artist, Benjamin Gilbert, to transform his concept into a completed public artwork installation. The outcome is a stunning permanent artwork that marks the starting point of the Mountain to Mouth, and brings a new story of interaction to a sacred space.

"Showed the spirit of collaboration... everyone worked seamlessly together to create a deep experience. We are overwhelmed by the beauty of the project."
Duncan Esler, City of Greater Geelong

Working closely with Parks Victoria and stakeholders, an official launch of the artwork saw local community, school groups, state and local government representatives and Geelong's arts community come together for an enchanting twilight picnic. Live performances included dance and song led by the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-Operative and Jonathon Welch AM (School of Hard Knocks Choir).
